Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Update

We know there is a great deal of anxiety around traveling right now. The COVID-19 situation is unprecedented and as a small, family-run property we are doing our best and ask our guests to be understanding during this evolving situation. 

Postpone and Re-Book

Mahalo nui loa to all our guests who are choosing to postpone rather than cancel their stays with us. In these uncertain times, it gives us all something to look forward to. We truly appreciate your continued support and look forward to welcoming you all to Hale 'Ohu when the current situation is resolved. 

  • Guests who booked directly with Hale 'Ohu, can modify/update date of stay at any time. We will honor your reservation for up to one year from your original arrival date. Email us for more information and to re-book your reservation. 

  • Guests who booked with Booking.com, can modify/update date of stay through Booking.com (different rates may apply) or receive a voucher issued by Hale 'Ohu B&B for a future stay. Value of the voucher is the amount already paid by the guest. 

  • Guests who booked with Expedia (Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, Trivago, etc.), will need to contact the third party directly to modify a reservation or email us for guidance.

Cancellations Due to COVID-19

COVID-19 Timeline for Hawai'i:

  • On March 22, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park closed to visitors.

  • On March 25, the State of Hawaii issued a stay-at-home order due to concerns around the potential spread of COVID-19 throughout the state. This is currently valid until June 30. 

  • On March 26, the State of Hawaii issued a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all incoming visitors. This is currently valid until July 31. 

  • On April 1, the State of Hawaii issued a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all inter-island travel

  • As of May 20, most state parks and Hawaii County beaches are open.

  • As of June 12, most restaurants, grocery stores and retail shops are open on Hawaii Island. Some restaurants offer limited indoor seating, but most offer take-out meals. Bars remain closed.

  • As of June 15, many parts of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park are open. Visit the HVNP website for a list of what is open. 

  • On June 16, all inter-island travelers will be exempt from the 14-day quarantine. Be sure to complete the mandatory Traveler Health Form

  • As of August 1, to avoid the mandatory 14-day quarantine, all trans-Pacific visitors will be required to get pre-tested for COVID-19 before traveling to Hawaii.

On-site Precautions

Below are some key steps we have taken at Hale ‘Ohu:

  • Once we re-open, guests will be offered contact-less check-in or self-check-in.

  • Each of our three rooms have private entrances and you do not share any space with other guests, which limits interaction.

  • Breakfast is already provided in your room, which again limits interaction.

  • There will be enhanced cleaning measures added to our normal high-standard of cleaning. All high-touch surfaces including doorknobs, light and lamp switches, TV remotes, counter-tops, cabinet pulls and shower fixtures will be disinfected between guests and every day of your stay.

  • We are trained and certified in safe food handling practices.

Traveler Health Precautions

Practicing good hygiene is your best defense. Here are some steps to stay healthy while traveling:

  • Wear a mask.

  • Practice social distancing and stay at least 2 meters (6 feet) from others. 

  • Wash hands frequently, with soap and hot water, for at least 20 seconds.

  • If you can't wash your hands, use hand sanitizer (60% alcohol or higher).

  • Use facial tissues and alcohol-based sanitizing wipes.

  • Cover your mouth when coughing (with the inside of your elbow).

  • Avoid touching your face--the eyes, nose and mouth are areas where illness can easily spread.

  • Stay hydrated--drink lots of water.

  • Get your sleep.

  • Opt out of activities if you are feeling tired or unwell.

  • If not feeling well, seek medical attention.
